Just as we in Denmark love our oats drenched in sugar, we love our potatoes and meat drenched in a thick sauce, that is so thick that it stays on the potatoes and meat when we move it from the plate to our mouth. And yes, it is just as unhealthy as it sounds and it is not the best choice of accompaniment if you want to stay healthy.
If you want to stay healthy, but still want your potatoes and red meat, so try eating it with a fruit salsa instead of a thick sauce. A fruit salsa is very easy to make, you can put in it what ever you want and you can eat it to whatever you want. I, personally, love eating it with tortilla wraps and nachos.
One of the fruit salsas I do the most as an accompaniment for a dinner with meat and potatoes is one that contains:
2 kiwis
1 little rep pepper
1 little red onion
2 tsp lime juice
2 tsp oil
1 knife point salt
For getting it into a salsa you peel the kiwis and remove the seeds from the red pepper. Dice what can be diced and mix all the ingredients together in a bowl, and then put in the fridge until it's needed. Easy huh?
( Tip: try putting nectarines in this fruit salsa! )
Another one of my favourite fruit (and berry) salsas, this one for snacks as nachos but also for dinner-ish food as tortilla wraps, contains:
2 big apples
2 kiwis
250 g of raspberries
500 g of strawberries
2 tsp lime juice
2 tsp oil
For salsa-ing this you peel the kiwis and peel and core the apples. For this salsa you also dice what can be diced and mix all the ingredients together in a bowl, and then put in the fridge until it's needed. Easy and absolutely delicious!
Enjoy your salsas!
xx Emma
