"Go out and enjoy the sun", my mum has always said, "Your skin needs some vitamin-D". But why are these vitamins so important for us and why is our cupboards filled up with bottles of all sort of vitamin pill? Let me tell you why: without some sort of vitamins our muscles will get weak and without other sort of vitamins we will get night blind or loose our teeth. That doesn't sound very comforting, right? I know pills are easy and quick to pour down your throat every morning, but why not try to eat you to alls these vitamins? It is actually easier than you may think! I've made a little list for you, so you'll have it easier making sure to get all those healthy vitamins without eating hundred pills a day.
The Vitamin-A is good for our eyesight, growth and appetite, and it is without this vitamin that we will get night blind. To avoid getting night blind you have to eat raw carrots, fish liver oil, spinach and other green vegetables.
The Vitamin-C is to be find in red pepper, kiwis, citrus fruits, berries, tomatoes, and green leafy vegetables. This vitamin is very important for our immune system and helps the body protecting itself from viruses and bacteria. Signs on that you're not getting enough of the vitamin-C is tiredness, bleeding gums and if your wounds takes a bit too long to heal.
And now the vitamin my mum has always said I needed more of: The vitamin-D. You get this one, as my mum said, by being outside in the sun at least 15 minutes a day, from milk, salmon, tuna, fish liver oil and sardines. By eating this and getting the 15 minutes of sun you help your body's transformation of calk and phosphate, which makes your bones and teeth stronger. If this transformation doesn't get the help it needs from the vitamins, it will be showed as bad and unhealthy looking teeth and, in worse case, brittle-bone disease.
Vitamin-E is a vitamin that reduce the cells' aging process under your skin. So by getting this your skin will look prettier while if you don't get enough you'll get weak muscles and loose your fertility! (Yeah, this fact scared me too!) So make sure you eat almonds, eggs, broccoli, vegetable oils, olive oil and soya beans, so you don't loose your fertility, girl!
And last, but not less important, is the iron. Getting iron is, as many people may not know, vital for us, because it is the iron that is responsible for transporting the oxygen around in out bodies. The lack of the transportation is felt like tiredness and headache. To prevent this eat liver, beef, eggs broccoli and tried fruits!
I hope this little guide helped you understanding why vitamins are so important for us, and how you can get them without pouring loads of pills down your throat!
Enjoy your vitamins!
xx Emma
