How to beat a cold

Doing winter many become an offer for a cold and not long ago I caught one myself. For me
there is nothing worse that constantly feeling like walking around in a diving bell, so I took a look
in some of my mum's old health books, hoping to something that could help me. In the books
I found many different advises, many logical and some very weird, and I've made a little collection
of the best ones.

Here is my Best Advises To Beat A Cold

Stay Hydrated
Drinking fluids is most likely the most used parental advice ever on how to beat a cold, and
with good reasons. Drinking water hydrates your body and your immun respsone system
needs this hydration to fight your cold. If you get tired of drinking water doing your sick
days, drink a (lot of) cup(s) of tea, as tea will help your body the same way as clear water.
But a cup of tea is not only a tasty way to hydration, but it can also be calming to a scratchy
throat.

When sick avoid drinking coffee and alcohol as these has a dehydration effect on your body,
and to get out of that diving bell dehydration isn't what you need!

Eat warm, liquidy foods
When sick you also have to get something to eat, and then why not eat something that helps
you beating your cold? Eating a bowl of chicken noodle soup is good for the taste bud, but it
also helps you keeping hydrated while it's gentle to a sore throat.

Sleep, sleep, sleep
I think this is the second most used parental advise. When you're sick, try to get a least 8
hours of sleep every night. That you sleep will help your body to recover much faster than if
you don't think of your sleep patterns.

Add an extra pillow
When sleeping try to put an extra pillow under your head than you normally would do. This
will help you breathing when your nose is stuffed as it helps open your nasal passages.

Take a hot shower
When you feel stuffed up, try to take a hot, steamy shower and make sure to inhale the steam.
The moist air will get into your sinuses and open them, so you can empty your nose of snot
easily when you get out of the shower. Empty one nostril at a time.

Go for a stroll
Cover yourself in layers of clothes and take a walk outside. The fresh air will might let snot
run, but this will help clearing out your nose and may make you feel less like walking around
in a diving bell.
Take a break from the gym
When you're sick take a few days break from the exercising. Doing your sickness try to only
stretch or lift light weights, but avoid exercise that you know will exhaust you. Make sure
not to start exercising before you're completely over your cold.
What is your best advices to beat a cold?
