Good looking Oats

A few years back I was one of those people who skipped breakfast several times weekly. I would literally go to school, or whatever was planned that day, without food in my stomach and nothing for my body to work thing with. These days I remember feeling tired and I remember snacking way more, well generally eating more for the rest of the day than I should. But then, when I watched telly one morning, I found out how important breakfast is for your energy level and long term health, and soon "Breakfast like a King, Lunch like a Prince and Dine like a Pauper" (meaning that breakfast shall be your biggest meal and then a smaller lunch and an even smaller dinner) became one of my favourite "stay healthy"-phrases. Now I don't go through a day without breakfast, and I now feel less tired and eat way less the rest of the day compared to when I skipped breakfast!

In Denmark we really like getting oats for breakfast, and these oats are often drenched in sugar (And yes, I mean it when I say drenched!). All that sugar make the usual oh-so-healthy oats oh-so-not-healthy and, as you might know, I prefer living more or less healthy, so all this sugar isn't really me. So when I started my Want-To-Be-Healthier-journey I looked up how to spice up my oats without drenching them in sugar.

The pictures you see above are photos taken from my personal instagram, and that is how I now spice up my oats, and honestly, it tastes way better than with all that sugar! Making my breakfast has become a little refuge for me, and if you don't stop me, I'll continue prettifying my breakfast all morning! I have even started to get out of bed five minutes earlier, sick I know, to make sure I have time to make my breakfast on point. This because I found out that the more effort I put into making it, the more enjoyment I'll have when I eat it!

You can decorate your oats in many different healthy ways. Personally I prefer to put several circles or stripes of seeds, dried berries, nuts or fruits on them. To give you some ideas how to top your oatmeal I'll give you what I've put on mine on the pictures:

Upper-left: Grapes, dessicated coconut, chia seeds and peanuts.
Upper-right: Dessicated coconut, chia seeds, liquorice powder and almonds.
Lower-left: Sunflower seeds, dried cranberry, walnuts and sesame seeds
Lower-right: Banana, dried canberry and walnuts.

Enjoy your oats!

xx Emma
