Katy Perry does it. Angelina Jolie does it. Madonna and Jennifer Aniston do it! Meditation has become all the craze and that with reason! Practicing meditation has more than 100 benefits for you and your body. This both spiritual, physiological and psychical. This includes such things as reducing stress, keeping things in perspective and increase creativity.
I've done 5-10 minutes of meditation twice a day for a couple month now and I don't regret one single minut of it. The only thing I regret is that I didn't began sooner. Meditation has helped me to be think better and brigthter. It has also helped be keeping calm in situations where I before would have lost it. I, honestly, think it has made me a better person towards other, but also towards myself!
I really hope you give youself the pleasure of following the "How To Meditate"-steps below. Be aware that the first time you try meditation it may not seems so amazing as everybody says. But there's a reason why it's called "Practicing Yoga"; you practice. You practice coming to the state of mind that all those who meditates are longing for. Sooner or later you will learn how to set you mind free, and I'm sure you will regret the process just as much I do, which is absolutely not regretting it!
- Shut the world out. Log out of facebook, instagram, twitter etc and put your phone on silence. This will help you keep focusing on the meditation.
- Comfy Clothes. Jump into some clothes that you feel comfortable in! This will automatically make you feel more relaxed.
- A lonely spot. Find a spot in your house, garden etc where you know nobody will disturb you. Personally I love taking loads of blanks, pillows and candles out in the old greenhouse in my garden, but when I don't have time for that, I just roll out a mat in my bedroom and close the door.
- The body scan. Stand on your feet and take a deep breath. Slowly bend you head forward so your chin touches your neck. Keep rolling your head downwards and let your shoulder and back follow. Meanwhile let your arms stay relaxed and as you roll down let them hang naturally under you. Work yourself down so your fingertips get as close to the floor as possible. Stand here for a moment and enjoy the stretch and relaxation. Now do it all backwards, rolling back up. Do the body scan 5 times before continuing to the next step.
- The Sit. Now sit down. There is no way that is the "right" way to sit, just sit as you feel comfortable. Many people, though, chooses to sit in the lotus or half-lotus position with their legs crossed in front of them and with their hands (with either the palms or the backs of the hands upwards) on their knees.

- Inhale and exhale. Take an inhale and an exhale with your eyes open. Take about 4 seconds for each inhale and each exhale. On your next inhale you close your eyes slowly, keeping the 4 seconds breathes.
- Thoughts. Concentrate on the expansion of your stomach as you breath and try to ease your mind. Don't think of the future or the past, but at the present moment. If you think of something else, don't fight it. Registrer the thoughts and then let them pass. Meditation is, as said, a process of learning how to free your mind and the more you meditate the better you become to let the thoughts go and focus on your breath. Be patient!
- Feel the relaxation. Sit in your posture for as long as you want to. For a beginner it's good meditating in just 5 minutes. This way you will make both your mind and body used to meditating, and then when you feel ready, go for a few more minutes.
- Open your eyes and return to the living world. Slowly stand up by rolling upward like you did in the body scan.
- Pleasure. Take a deep breath once more and take in how your mind and body feel at the present moment.
TIP: If you have good time, light up some candles around you. This will make the atmosphere in the room cozy and it will help you relax.
Free your mind and enjoy!
xx Emma
Love this post!! - I myself like to meditate to shut the world out but I would like to do it more often :))
ReplyDeleteSuch helpful tips!!
Lovely post! I've begun starting every day with 20-30 minutes of yoga and it really gets your day off to the right start. I've always struggled with meditation though, too fidgety to focus on nothing. But I'm working more towards mindfulness, being present in every moment is a form of meditation in itself :)
